Job purpose

The Line Manager is fully in charge of his service. This includes the operations, delivering a proper service to customers and optimizing the financial results of his service.

Main Tasks And Responsibilities

  • The Line Manager is fully in charge of his service. This includes the operations, delivering a proper service to customers and optimizing the financial results of his service.
  • She/he coordinates the activity of main suppliers, which are: ship agents, terminals, vessels, bunker traders.
  • She/he makes sure that the service is performed as per proforma set schedule and takes appropriate actions in case of non-compliance.
  • he makes sure that vessels are always well utilized and takes appropriate actions in case of low utilization and/or overbooking.
  • She/he handles cargo claims and ships damage claims in team with Claims and Ops dept.
  • Monitoring the bunker consumption.
  • Adjusting the speed in order to minimize the bunker consumption, but also with a view to perform the voyage schedule in compliance with the proforma.
  • Coordinating with the agents for the berthing and terminal operations, trying his best to minimize the port stay.
  • she/he communicates with customers, making sure to keep them always well informed and satisfied with the services she/he is in charge of.
  • She/he manages cargo bookings and contingency plan in case of overbookings.
  • she/he keeps customers always duly updated about the vessels position of his services and, in case of non-compliance with the proforma, she/he explains the actions taken for recovering.
  • she/he studies the agreements with customers and /or JV in order to be aware of the main terms applicable.
  • She/he manages the cost of his service, doing his best to minimize it, always complying with the level of quality set for his service.
  • she submit profitability report at end of each voyage.
  • she/he suggests any changes to improve the performance of his service.
  • she/he checks the actual performance of the assigned service and compares same with the budget.

Background And Experience

  • Graduate/ Masters level education, Good computer skills (shipping software, EBMS, related logistics/ shipping/ marine certification, MS Office – Excel).
  • 1.5/2 year minimum experience as a Assistant Line Manager or Line Manager within Feeder/Liner shipping companies environment.
  • 5-10 years experience within feeder/liner shipping companies
  • Knowledge of port, harbor, customs and immigration activities and procedures, and necessary legal requirements.
  • Knowledge of Terminal operating systems, shipping operations, vessel services and port rotations.
